So, as some of you may already know, Morning Star Literary currently has submissions open for the second issue, “Wish”. Personally, I think “Wish” is such a cool theme, and I think it would be fun to talk about! Today, I’m going to share my thoughts on this theme!

First of all, I feel like there are so many different ways you could go with this theme, which I feel like helps bring in a wide variety of perspectives on the theme. For example, you could write about something you have wished for in the past or are currently wishing for. Why do you wish for it? Did something lead you to have the wish? You could wish for a new video game, or maybe wish to travel the world. Maybe if you had a wish granted, you could talk about the feelings you had when that wish was granted. There are a plethora of possibilities that this could go!

You can choose to be more straightforward or symbolic about your wish. You don’t have to be like “I wish to travel the world, so let me write about traveling around the world” (though you most certainly could write about traveling around the world!) Maybe wishing to travel the world could be a symbol for wanting to explore and learn new things, or vice versa. Exploring your wishes is a great way to explore yourself and to write about it (but make sure you’re adhering to the theme if you plan on submitting)!

And you don’t just have to talk about your wishes! You could talk about something that symbolizes wishes, such as blowing out birthday candles, or you could talk about your perspectives on wishes. What does wishing mean to you? Does it give you a goal to work for? Or perhaps a feeling of hope? Or something else?

I feel like the theme “Wish” helps connect the past, the present, and the future together. There are so many ways for this theme to go. I feel like this theme is a great way for writers to explore not just what they wish for, but their desires, their feelings, and their imagination.
